Z ARCHIVE D3 - Hwy 169 in Princeton: 2025 construction
Add a post-it reminder to your home fridge—Mon, April 21, Hwy 169 will reduce to one- lane of traffic through Princeton to prepare for future bridge work.
Hwy 169 work zone: April 21 - late May
First, crews will construct temporary crossovers in the median, widen lanes for traffic and set up traffic control devices to prepare the work zone between Baxter Rd. and 313th Ave. through Princeton.
You can expect lane shifts, reduced speeds, single-lane traffic, no shoulders and sudden stops or delays at busy times, as follows:
Northbound Hwy 169
- Reduced to one lane, 24-7, from 7 a.m. Mon to 10 a.m. Fri
- All lanes open over the weekend
Southbound Hwy 169
- Reduced to one lane, 24-7, from 7 a.m. Mon to 7 p.m. Sat
Information is tentative and subject to change. Crew may work off-road at any time.
Do the Zipper Merge: use both lanes until the merge point, resist the urge to merge early and take turns at the merge point.
MnDOT reminds motorists to slow down and obey posted speeds (fines $300 for speeding in a work zone), to add some extra travel time onto your daily commute and do the zipper merge by using both lanes until the merge point.
Future impacts: Late May - fall
Hwy 169 will be head-to-head traffic, 24-7, on one side of the highway as crew repair bridges on the adjacent side, which includes weekends. Start planning and consider alternate routes or traveling at off-peak hours, especially on weekends. More information to become available closer to start date.

2025 bridge work
This six-month $7.3 million project will repair and replace the concrete wearing surface on eight bridges—four each way—over: North Rum River Dr. (Mille Lacs Co. Rd. 29), the West Branch Rum River, First St. (Sherburne Co. Rd. 31) and S Rum River Dr. (Sherburne Co. Rd. 29) in Princeton.
The project includes work on bridge approach panels, concrete joints, catch basins and guardrail, along with other necessary repairs.
When open in fall 2025, the project will provide a smoother travel surface, extend the life of the bridges and improve storm water drainage.
