We know it's hard to believe after the spring snow storm last week, but construction season is just around the corner! We are anticipating work on the second year of road construction in Pelican Rapids to begin later this month (exact date is weather dependent and based on when spring load restrictions are lifted).
As weather allows, in early to mid-April, bridge crews may also be on-site to finish up some work at the bridge downtown over the Pelican River. Expect parking and sidewalk restrictions on the east side of the bridge while they're working. Thanks for your patience as they need to get this work done early before water levels start to rise.
Join us on April 17 at our open house
On Thursday, April 17, 4:30 to 6 p.m., at the Pelican Rapids Public Library, MnDOT will host a public open house to answer questions about what to expect this year. We hope to see you there! No formal presentation planned—just stop in when its convenient to talk to the construction team.
Upcoming construction staging
When work starts, crews will begin on Highway 59, between Fifth Avenue NE and Eighth Avenue NW, Stage 2B of the project. The work in Stage 2B will be completed one lane at a time, with an automated traffic signal to direct traffic through the work zone.
A few weeks later in May, crews will also resume work on Highway 108 east, finishing where they stopped last year in Stage 4A, between 2 ½ Street and Fourth Street.
Businesses remain open during road construction! Access will be maintained to both businesses and residences, but entrances may change or shift as utility replacements and concrete work are underway. We appreciate your patience as everyone gets used to new traffic patterns.
Weekly in-person updates resume May 1
Starting May 1, MnDOT and Landwehr Construction, Inc., the prime contractor, will resume weekly in-person construction updates at the Pelican Rapids Public Library at noon on Thursdays. These meetings will continue weekly on Thursdays during construction, based on consistent interest and attendance.
Construction on all remaining stages of the project is expected to wrap up in October 2025!
