We're back, folks! Although work on the 11th Street underpass project has been ongoing even through the winter months, construction operations will be back in full swing over the next few weeks. At this time, most of our work remains isolated to the currently closed portions of First Avenue and 11th Street, so not much should change for traffic impacts at this time.

However, there is more to come during this upcoming construction season! We will be moving onto the next phases of the project, plus the City of Moorhead has road work planned, too. We want you to feel prepared to navigate through it all, so MnDOT and the City of Moorhead are hosting a public open house on Tuesday, March 25, 4-6 p.m., at Moorhead's Hjemkomst Center, located at 202 1st Ave N. No presentation planned, just stop by when it's convenient!
We hope to see you there!

Over the winter, crews have been both installing and removing shoring for the cofferdams, to allow for the construction of the Hillsboro and KO underpass, in addition to the many retaining walls. At the site of the lift station, work continues on the exterior walls and crews are starting to install interior piping. As of this week, excavation begins to continue construction of the bridge abutments. You'll start to see more and more activity on the project as the weather warms up!

Most of the work that's picking back up this spring remains within the Stage 1 area on First Avenue and 11th Street.
However, this summer, beginning June 1, work will start on Stage 2 along Main Avenue. At that time, both First Avenue and Main Avenue (within the project limits) will be closed to thru traffic, but business access will be maintained. MnDOT and the City of Moorhead are currently working to finalize detour plans, and details will be shared as we get closer to Stage 2 construction.
As always, we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses.
-
Train horns have resumed in the Downtown Quiet Zone during construction hours (Monday - Friday, 6am - 7pm). This is a requirement of the railroad, and we appreciate your understanding as worker safety is prioritized.
-
Moorhead businesses are open during construction! If your destination falls within/near the work zone or along the detour routes, please check in with the business to determine the best route there.
-
Never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones. It is not safe to drive, walk or bike around barricades, even in areas where workers aren't present or active. Those boundaries are set up for your safety. There are signed detours installed for both motorists and pedestrians. Please use those routes.
-
There may be other projects in Moorhead that could affect your travel routes, so please check in with the City of Moorhead for plans and impacts. Visit their website or follow the City of Moorhead on Facebook.
Please report any issues to the 11th Street Underpass hotline number at 218-292-8779.
