Metro - I-494 Minnesota River Bridge from Bloomington to Eagan/Mendota Heights: 2023-2026 construction
Beginning Mon, March 10 through late October, we will close the regional trail that runs parallel to westbound I-494 from Pilot Knob Rd. to American Blvd. as part of the I-494 Bridge over Minnesota River project.
There is no official detour for this closure. If you plan on utilizing this trail, please plan ahead as some nearby options may be unpaved or dirt trails.
This closure is necessary so crews can safely reconstruct the trail.
Please note that all timeframes are approximate, subject to change, and weather and schedule dependent.
Crews began work on the I-494 bridge over the Minnesota River in spring 2023. This 43-year-old bridge needs repairs to continue to safely transport people and goods between the cities of Bloomington, Eagan, and Mendota Heights. Once construction is completed in 2026, travelers using the bridge will enjoy a smoother, safer road. The project will also extend the life of the bridge and improve drainage.
Motorists can expect lane, weekend, and overnight directional closures while crews do work on the bridge.
For more information, including upcoming traffic impacts and detours, visit the project webpage. If you have any questions about this work, please contact the project team.
