Metro - I-35W in Burnsville: 2025-2026 construction
Crossover construction is nearly complete. All lanes on Hwy 13 between Co. Rd. 5 and Nicollet Ave. will reopen for the winter at 12:01 a.m. tomorrow, Nov. 8.
Additionally, I-35W will be wrapping up crossover construction between the I-35/I-35E/I-35W split and Black Dog Rd. by 12:01 a.m. Mon, Nov. 11.
E-ZPass lanes will be charged as normal starting Mon, Nov. 11.
Crews will continue to work in the area to finalize construction through mid-November.
The larger portion of the construction and traffic impacts will begin in spring 2025 when crews begin the following road and bridge updates:
- Replace pavement on I-35W
- Repair or replace bridges at Hwy 13 and Cliff Rd.
- Update guardrail
- Improve drainage
We appreciate your patience while we make these improvements. Plan ahead by checking 511, and give yourself additional time to reach your destination.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.
Please drive with care in work zones:
- Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate with care and caution.
- Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
- Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
- Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

In coordination with the City of Burnsville and Dakota County, we will resurface I-35W and repair or replace bridges between Cliff Rd. and the Burnsville split during the 2025 and 2026 construction seasons. We expect to complete the project in fall 2026. Once finished, this stretch of I-35W will have a smoother road surface and an extended bridge and pavement life.
