D3 - I-94 Gap – Albertville to Monticello: 2024 -2026 construction
Crews completed the temporary lane widening and median crossovers on the I-94 Gap project between CR 37 in Albertville and Hwy 25 in Monticello.
All lanes are open on I-94. Work operations will resume in full force in spring 2025.
However, off-road work and periodic lane closures could occur year-round on this project.
A glance ahead
Major construction will take place spring 2025 to fall 2026. Overall, I-94 will remain open to two lanes, each direction, on one side of the interstate as crews construct the adjacent side.
- Spring to Fall 2025: Construct westbound lanes
- Spring to Fall 2026: Construct eastbound lanes
The 2024-2025 winter season is upon us and MnDOT snow plow fighters will be out maintaining the state road system for you.
Winter driving safety reminders:
- Don’t drive distracted.
- Stay alert for snowplows, which turn or exit frequently and may travel over centerlines or partially in traffic to further improve road conditions.
- Stay back at least 10 car lengths behind the plow. Don’t drive into a snow cloud.
- Slow down to a safe speed for current conditions.
- Turn on your headlights and wear your seat belt.
- Turn off the cruise control.
Project work zone
When all six lanes open in fall 2026, the project will provide a smoother ride, extend the life of the interstate, improve freight access, increase capacity and reduce bottle necks, address area growth and improve motorist safety along I-94 Albertville and Monticello.
