Z ARCHIVE Metro - I-94 Oakdale to St. Croix: 2022-2024 construction
The various travel impacts that were originally scheduled to begin last night, Oct. 28, as part of our final eastbound I-94 traffic shift have been delayed by a couple days. Thank you for your continued patience as we complete a considerable amount of work throughout the construction zone. Here are the latest updates.
Starting tomorrow, Oct. 30, Minnesota State Patrol will be stopping eastbound I-94 traffic intermittently for 10-15 minutes at a time between Century Ave. and Woodbury Dr. from 1:30-5 a.m. each morning through Fri, Nov. 1. These traffic stops are necessary while crews install new overhead signs. Plan for delays if you travel through the area during these early morning hours.
Then, beginning at 7 p.m. on Fri, Nov. 1, eastbound I-94 will be reduced to one lane overnight between Century Ave. and Woodbury Dr. to allow crews to shift traffic. By 5 a.m. the following morning, Sat, Nov. 2, eastbound I-94 will reopen to two lanes between Century Ave. and Woodbury Dr. on the east side of the interstate. Both directions of I-94 will be reduced to two lanes until the middle of November while crews construct a new center median.
The following I-94 ramps are anticipated to reopen to traffic by 5 a.m. on Sat, Nov. 2:
- The ramp from Century Ave. to eastbound I-94
- The ramp from northbound I-494 to eastbound I-94
- The ramp from eastbound I-94 to Radio Dr./Inwood Ave. North
- The ramps from Radio Dr./Inwood Ave. North to eastbound I-94
Rescheduled: I-94/I-494/I-694 ramp closures begin November 7
The following westbound I-94 entrance and exit ramps will be closed to traffic starting at 5 a.m. Thu, Nov. 7 through Wed, Nov. 13 to allow crews to construct a concrete median under the interchange:
- The ramp from westbound I-94 to southbound I-494
- The ramp from northbound I-694 to westbound I-94
Motorists can bypass the closures using the 10th St. interchange. See the detour routes.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.

- Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate with care and caution.
- Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
- Obey posted speed limits. The fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
- Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
- Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

We will be resurfacing the pavement and making other improvements to I-94 between Hwy 120/Century Ave. and the St. Croix River through fall 2024. The work will improve safety, traffic flow and ride smoothness.
