If you drive in Faribault, you will encounter construction work at Hwy 21 and 7th St. NW beginning Monday, Sept. 23 as crews replace traffic signals and make other improvements.
This work is a change in the original schedule. The Hwy 21 and 7th St. NW intersection work was originally scheduled for 2025, and it has been moved to 2024. Improvements at the Hwy 60 and Western Ave. intersection were originally scheduled for this year. It has been postponed to 2025. Improvements at the Hwy 60 and 3rd St. NE intersection are also scheduled for 2025.
Construction details
Work at Hwy 21 and 7th St. NW includes replacing the signals, expanding westbound 7th St. NW to include left and right turn lanes, converting 7th St. NW eastbound to a left turn and thru/right lanes, adding pedestrian crossings on the east and north approaches and making Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements. Work is expected to be completed in November.
Traffic impacts
Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal. The current traffic signals are expected to stay operational during the project. There will not be detours. The right turn lanes on 7th St. will be closed, but motorists will be able to turn right onto Hwy 21 from the driving lanes.
