Concrete work continues downtown, and sidewalks are now walkable between the bridge and the Highway 108 west intersection! There may be a few sections here and there that are still curing or need to be finished up. Please avoid any areas that are blocked by ribbons or cones, and watch your step.
Concrete paving will begin next—your cooperation is VERY important during this process. If you're walking downtown, please DO NOT cross the street while the concrete is curing. Do not walk around or underneath ribbons, cones or barriers. The bridge or south of the bridge would be the best location to walk across the road. Thank you!
Week 21 construction progress
In Stage 1C, on Highway 59 north of the bridge, concrete is the star of the show. Curb and gutter, sidewalks, boulevards, pedestrian ramps, entrances, center median—it's quite the list of concrete work to finish up, and that continues north of the bridge up to Second Avenue N. In addition, they're grading the roadway and preparing for concrete paving. That operation will begin at the bridge, working north toward the Highway 108 west intersection.
Reminder that your cooperation is VERY important during the concrete work. Any disturbed concrete may need to be removed and re-installed. Please help us keep things moving by being alert and cautious, and never enter an area blocked by tape/ribbon, barriers or cones.
North of Second Avenue, in Stage 2A, utility replacements continue through the Fifth Avenue NE intersection. At times, access to the northeast side of town may switch between Second Avenue NE and Fifth Avenue NE. Crews have to do work in both of these intersections, but one will always remain open for cross traffic. Please stay alert for these changes. If there's a barrier across one of the intersections, that means you're being directed to the other one for that time.
This week, work in Stage 4A on Highway 108 east also started. Removals are underway up to 2 1/2 Street, and crews are beginning to work on storm sewer replacements. The underground work begins between the post office and the apartment building, so if you're trying to get to the post office, you'll need to come from the west.
In addition, please be cautious walking across the pedestrian bridge over the river. While crews are working in/near the post office's parking lot, there may be some restrictions and/or temporary walkways for pedestrians in place near the entrance of the pedestrian bridge.
Pavement removals started this week on Highway 108 east in Stage 4A

Safety & detour reminders
We have detour routes set up for every type of road user. Trucks and thru-traffic should follow the signed routes out of town, city residents and visitors can follow the in-town detour route, and if you are walking, biking or rolling through town, please follow signed pedestrian routes. We know it may be inconvenient at times, and you may need to walk a block or two out of the way to get around, but your cooperation is important for your safety.
Pelican Rapids businesses are OPEN during construction, so follow the various detours to best navigate around the work zone and stop in to support them! To access businesses on the northeast side of town, please use Fifth Avenue NE or 2nd Avenue N (access location may vary depending on where crews are working. If barricades are up, you'll want to go to the other intersection to cross.)
If you don't have a destination in Pelican Rapids and want to avoid backups, we advise using the thru-traffic/truck routes out of town to get to the lakes or other destinations. See the thru-traffic map at top of the email for the thru-traffic route options, depending on your direction of travel.
