There are a couple of important traffic changes coming up on Tuesday, Sept. 3 in Pelican Rapids, weather permitting:
-
Highway 108 east to close from east of the roundabout at Highway 59 up to 2 1/2 Street. The in-town detour will follow Second Avenue and Fourth Street. More info below!
-
Fifth Avenue NE will temporarily close for one day to allow crews to access a valve for utility replacements in Stage 2A. To get to/from the northeast side of town, you'll be directed to cross at Second Avenue NW/NE on Tuesday.
If you have travel plans for Labor Day weekend, always check 511mn.org before you go to find out where you may encounter road construction. Most work on projects across the state will pause for the holiday weekend, but work zones and detours will remain in place. Travel smart, travel safe.

Stage 4A starts Tuesday
Highway 108 east will close on Tuesday, Sept. 3, weather permitting, for Stage 4A of the project. In-town traffic will be directed to Fourth Street SE and Second Avenue SE.
Crews will begin just east of the roundabout at Highway 59 up to 2 1/2 Street. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained, but you may need to park on a side street and walk up to your location. You'll want to check in with your destination on the best way to get to them.
A reminder that whatever crews start on this year, they have to be able to finish, so progress will continue block-by-block in Stage 4A as the weather allows.

Week 20 construction progress
Concrete work continues downtown! By Saturday morning, most of the concrete should be walkable, but please watch your step in areas they haven't poured yet.
Businesses are open! Business access is being maintained, but check in with your destination on the best way to get to them. And if there are areas blocked off by ribbons or cones, please choose a different path.
Weather permitting, next week, they plan to begin concrete paving, starting from the bridge working north toward the Highway 108 west intersection.
Reminder that your cooperation is VERY important during the concrete work. Any disturbed concrete may need to be removed and re-installed. Please help us keep things moving by being alert and cautious, and never enter an area blocked by tape/ribbon, barriers or cones.
North of Second Avenue, in Stage 2A, utility replacements are underway. On Tuesday, Sept. 3, crews will need to close the Fifth Avenue NE intersection to access a valve for this work. To access the northeast side of town, you'll be directed to Second Avenue NE for the day. The road surface will be gravel, so please cross with caution. Once they've accessed the valve and finished their work, Fifth Avenue NE will reopen for local traffic.
When work starts on Tuesday in Stage 4A, on Highway 108 east, they'll begin with pavement and sidewalk removals up to 2 1/2 Street. Then, they'll get started on underground utilities. They'll dig down first between the post office and the apartment building, so if you're trying to get to the post office, you'll need to come from the west.
