Weather permitting, work in Stage 4A on Highway 108 east is currently scheduled to start on Monday, Aug. 26! We appreciate everyone's patience as we've been working with the contractor on the changes to the staging plan and schedule. When Highway 108 east closes, in-town traffic will be directed to Fourth Street SE and Second Avenue SE. We'll share a new map next week!
We want to thank the entire Pelican Rapids community - businesses, residents and visitors - for your continued patience, understanding and commitment to the project's progress.
Week 18 construction progress
We've had some rainy days this week, but crews continue to work on underground utilities and have started grading to begin prepping the roadway for concrete to start in this stage. When concrete crews return, weather permitting next week, they will begin on curb and gutter, starting on the roundabout at Highway 108 west, working south toward the bridge.
Further north, in Stage 2A (Third Ave NE to Fifth Ave NE) crews will begin hooking up temporary waterlines and then start on utility replacements when they've wrapped up in Stage 1C.
Remember: businesses are open! Business access is being maintained, but please check in with your destination on the best way to get to them. To access businesses on the northeast side of town, please use Fifth Avenue NE.
Underground utility replacements continue and grading begins in Stage 1C downtown
Traffic travels on Highway 59, south of the roundabout at Highway 108 east.
- Stages 1A and 1B - Highway 59 south is open to all traffic!
- Finishing up utility replacements up to Second Ave in Stage 1C
- Grading in Stage 1C (bridge through the Hwy 108 east intersection)
- Hook up temporary water in Stage 2A (Third Ave N to Fifth Ave NE)
- Begin utility work in Stage 2A (Third Ave N to Fifth Ave NE)

Safety & detour reminders
We have detour routes set up for every type of road user. Trucks and thru-traffic should follow the signed routes out of town, city residents and visitors can follow the in-town detour route, and if you are walking, biking or rolling through town, please follow the signed pedestrian routes. We know it may be inconvenient at times, and you may need to walk a block or two out of the way to get around, but your cooperation is important for your safety.
Pelican Rapids businesses are OPEN during construction, so follow the various detours to best navigate around the work zone and stop in to support them! To access businesses on the northeast side of town, please use Fifth Avenue NE.
If you don't have a destination in Pelican Rapids and want to avoid backups, we advise using the thru-traffic/truck routes out of town to get to the lakes or other destinations. See the thru-traffic map at top of the email for the thru-traffic route options, depending on your direction of travel.
