Highway 34 Osage to Park Rapids: Update August 13
*Reminder: Highway 34 is closed to thru traffic. Please follow the signed detour. Access to businesses and residents are maintained within the work zone.
Current work:
Crews are currently paving on Highway 34 which will continue for the next few weeks.
What’s next:
Paving will continue through late-August, weather permitting. Once paving is complete, crews will begin rumble strips, ditch work, seeding, sign installation and pavement markings. The project is on schedule to be complete early-September. The next project update will be sent out once the project is near completion.

About the Project:
The project includes a full depth pavement reclamation, shoulder widening, culvert replacements, and sidewalk upgrades in Osage. Project benefits and cost
Benefits of the project include a safer road, improved drainage, pedestrian improvements, and a smoother and longer lasting driving surface. Anderson Brothers is the contractor for the $8.4 million project.
Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:
- Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.
- Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
- Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
- Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
- Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
