It's hard to believe July is nearly over! Various operations continue on the 11th Street underpass project, and there's more to come.
Railroad crossing closure starts Aug. 5
Starting Aug. 5, the railroad crossing on Eighth Street, just south of First Avenue will close, as railroad crews will be replacing the crossing outside of the underpass project limits. You will not be able to cross the tracks in this location for about five weeks.
This will make a slight impact to the current First Avenue detour route, altering where you may cross north or south at the tracks. Seventh Street, 14th Street (which is part of the current detour) or the 20th/21st Street underpass will be the best options for motorists, depending on where you're traveling. Pedestrians will be detoured to Seventh Street.
Construction progress and upcoming work
Trains are now running on the Hillsboro shoofly, the temporary railroad bypass. With the shoofly now in place, crews are have started excavations, the next step toward construction of the underpass.
At the KO line, crews continue to grade the area and prepare for shoofly construction. In early August, railroad crews will return to construct the KO shoofly.
On the northwest side of the project in Memorial/W.H. Davy Park, crews are installing pipe for the storm sewer system that outfalls to the Red River. There have been some restrictions in the park while crews have been working and we appreciate your patience. The walking path/Viking Trail was poured on Friday and will reopen to the public this week.
At the future lift station, near the corner of 11th Street and First Avenue, crews continue excavating down to the bottom elevation, where the foundation will be placed. Once the pad is in, they'll work their way up by building the walls.

Moorhead businesses are open during construction! If your destination falls within/near the work zone or along the detour routes, please check in with the business to determine the best route there.

Never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones. It is not safe to drive, walk or bike around barricades, even in areas where workers aren't present or active. Those boundaries are set up for your safety. There are signed detours installed for both motorists and pedestrians. Please use those routes.

There may be other projects in Moorhead that could affect your travel routes, so please check in with the City of Moorhead for plans and impacts. Visit their website or follow the City of Moorhead on Facebook.
