Z ARCHIVE Metro - Hwy 65 Spring Lake Park to East Bethel: 2023-2025 construction
In addition to the current full closure of Hwy 65 between 187th Ln. Northeast and Viking Blvd. in East Bethel, Hwy 65 will fully close for a week beginning early tomorrow morning, July 19.
Beginning 1 a.m. tomorrow, July 19, Hwy 65 will close in both directions between 167th Ave. and 169th Ave./Flamingo Dr. through 11 p.m. Fri, July 26. This closure is necessary for replacement of a culvert beneath the highway.
Local traffic to and from 169th Ave. at Hwy 65 will be maintained throughout the closure.
Please follow the signed detour to avoid the closure:
Local access during closure:
-
Northbound traffic to 169th Ave./Flamingo Dr. Northeast: Use the median crossover at 167th Ave. (full closure just north of 167th Ave.)
-
169th Ave. Northeast/Flamingo Dr. to northbound Hwy 65: Use the median crossover just south of 169th Ave. (full closure just south of 169th Ave.)
-
169th Ave. Northeast/Flamingo Dr. to southbound Hwy 65: Use local streets in Flamingo Terrace Mobile Home Park and the west frontage road to access southbound Hwy 65 at 167th Ave.
Drivers who regularly use Hwy 65, are encouraged to use an alternate route if possible, such as I-35W or Hwy 47 to avoid congestion and delays.
Reminder: Access will be maintained to local residences and businesses north of Constance Blvd. up to the full closure at 187th Ln. Northeast.
Traffic will be allowed to cross Hwy 65 between Constance Blvd. and Viking Blvd.
We appreciate your patience while we make these improvements. Plan ahead by checking 511, and give yourself additional time to reach your destination.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather and schedule permitting and subject to change.

More about this project
We are repairing, resurfacing and replacing bridges and culverts on more than 19 miles of Hwy 65 between Co. Rd. 10 in Spring Lake Park and 237th Ave. in East Bethel. The work includes resurfacing nearly 16.5 miles of Hwy 65 between Co. Rd. 10 in Spring Lake Park and 217th Ave. in East Bethel.
Additionally, we are replacing bridges over Coon Creek in Ham Lake and the culverts south of Viking Blvd. and north of Constance Blvd. Full-depth pavement repairs will correct areas of settlement and high-tension cable median guardrail installed from Bunker Lake Blvd. to 237th Ave. will help prevent cross-median crashes.
The 19-mile project also includes drainage improvements, and curb ramp and sidewalk upgrades at 11 intersections between Blaine and East Bethel, and replacement of signal systems at 85th Ave. and 93rd Ave. in Blaine. The project is anticipated to be complete this fall.
