Michels Road & Stone Update: June 28
A message to homeowners and property owners along Hwy 220
We are continuing to crush the old concrete pavement and laying down the fabric that will help in the longevity of the new concrete pavement. Grading operations have begun starting on the north end of the project. We will begin starting to pave back the new concrete pavement at the end of next week.
Throughout next week will be laying out the steel reinforcement that will go inside the concrete. Please be very cautious when driving around the North end due to the steel that will be laying along the shoulder of the road. As we are paving the concrete pavement it will be imperative that the new concrete is not driven on or walked on. Any disturbance of the concrete will slow the progress of the project. It will also cause a delay in the harvesting of sugar beets. This is a main thoroughfare for the hauling of this crop and will need to be opened on time to assure a successful season. We are still doing our best to try and keep one lane of travel open.
To any homeowners living directly on TH 220 if you have a mailbox on the right-of-way, we will be relocating the mailboxes to the beginning of the project and at intersections to the South of your residence. It will be a bank of mailboxes with the address on the front of the mailbox. After all work is completed, we will be reinstalling the mailboxes back in their original locations.
As always, your patience with the construction is appreciated more than can be shown. I want to extend my gratefulness to the residents during this project. Thank you!
Please use caution while traveling through the worksite. There will be many obstacles such as loose gravel, bumps, large equipment, workers, muddy conditions and many other things that could arise while moving through the project area. Please be as careful as possible around the obstacles that you will encounter. This is a full reconstruction of the road and needs our full attention on completion of the project.
Please, when possible, use the marked detour route to get to the nearest intersection of your home to make this a smoother project for everyone involved.
If you have any questions, concerns and/or issues regarding the project, please contact me with any questions that may come up. Thank you very much for your time and patience during this process.
Sincerely, Richard S. Sexton Project Manager Michels Road and Stone 219-405-1145 rsexton@michels.us

MNDOT strives to maintain access to residents and businesses during construction except for short periods of time, which cannot be avoided. When an access may be closed for a short duration, the resident or business owner will be directly contacted by the contractor to make accommodations.
Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:

- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
