Thank you for your patience and cooperation while adjusting to the new in-town detour routes and closures! As a reminder, the in-town detour on First Avenue SW now extends north across Highway 108 to Fifth Avenue NW. A new thru-traffic detour on Highway 34 and County Road 113 has also been installed.
A reminder for your Fourth of July travel plans to check 511mn.org for statewide traffic impacts. The project on Highway 59/Highway 108 in Pelican Rapids is just one of many road construction projects happening across Minnesota. Before you go, check the 511 map to see where you may encounter work zones, detours and more. Always slow down in work zones (even when workers aren't present) and never enter an area blocked by barriers or cones.
For Fourth of July holiday and upcoming weekend, crews will wrap up today, July 3, and return on Monday, July 8. Depending on weather, there may be a small crew on-site Friday and/or Saturday in the area in front of the school to continue dirt work in that section.

Week 11 & 12 construction progress
With Stage 1C closures now in place, crews have been hooking up temporary water lines and removing pavement north of the Pelican River bridge. They'll begin working on underground utilities next week. Remember: businesses are open! Business access is being maintained, but please check in with your destination on the best way to get to them. To access businesses on the northeast side of town, please use Fifth Avenue NE.
Underground utilities are complete in both Stages 1A and 1B! Concrete crews continue to work their way south, and are currently installing sidewalks throughout Stage 1A up to Third Avenue. In Stage 1B in front of the school, crews are focusing on getting the dirt compacted and ready for concrete installation. Curb and gutter will begin begin installed in Stage 1B next week, followed by sidewalks. Paving will take place once that is all in place—expected mid-July.
Crews are also working at the Pelican River bridge, getting it sandblasted and ready for paint!
Reminder to pedestrians and motorists: Disturbed concrete will have to be removed and re-installed. Please help us keep things moving by being alert and cautious, and never enter an area blocked by tape/ribbon, barriers or cones. Your cooperation is important! Thank you!!

Join us weekly on Wednesdays for in-person updates!
You can join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Wednesday, noon to 12:30 p.m., for weekly in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions!
*Meetings are subject to change based on interest and attendance.
View the recordings of the weekly public meetings on the library's Youtube page. Due to the set up of the room and number of attendees, audio is tricky so we appreciate your patience with the recordings' sound.
If you have a question about the project, but can't make it to the weekly meetings, please call the project Helpline 218-517-9848 at any time.
Safety & detour reminders
We have detour routes set up for every type of road user. Trucks and thru-traffic should follow the signed routes out of town, city residents and visitors can follow the in-town detour route, and if you are walking, biking or rolling through town, please follow the signed pedestrian routes. We know it may be inconvenient at times, and you may need to walk a block or two out of the way to get around, but your cooperation is important for your safety.
Pelican Rapids businesses are OPEN during construction, so follow the various detours to best navigate around the work zone and stop in to support them! To access businesses on the northeast side of town, please use Fifth Avenue NE.
If you don't have a destination in Pelican Rapids and want to avoid backups, we advise using the thru-traffic/truck routes out of town to get to the lakes or other destinations. See the map for the thru-traffic route options, depending on your direction of travel.

All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
