D3 - Hwy 10 & Hwy 23 in St. Cloud: 2023–2024 construction
Project update
Beams set on new Fourth St. SE bridge over Hwy 10
Construction is moving right along on the Hwy 10/23 interchange. This past week, crews delivered and placed bridge beams for the future City of St. Cloud Fourth St. SE bridge, which will span Hwy 10 and connect to the east and west Hwy 10 frontage roads. They also began to form the bridge deck for future concrete pouring.
Next week, they will continue bridge decking along with grading Hwy 10/23 and the east and west frontage roads.
Assisted by State Patrol to direct traffic, bridge beams arrive on site Monday night, June 24.
A crane carries the first of 12 beams. Each pre-stressed beam is 87 feet long, 35 inches tall and weighs 28 tons.
Workers wait for the second beam to be set. It takes a lot of coordination and communication—traffic control, crane operators and workers on each side.
A beam is set into place over the closed portion of westbound Hwy 10 on Tuesday morning, June 25.
Upcoming street access closures
Begins July 8
Travelers will encounter these temporary adjacent street access changes and closures:
-
14th Ave. SE at Hwy 23—July 8 to early August
- Crews will close and reconstruct the intersection access to/from Hwy 23.
-
East half of E St. Germain St. at Hwy 10—July 8 to mid-August
- Crews will close and reconstruct the intersection access to/from Hwy 10.
Motorists should use alternate routes or follow construction signs through the work zone.
Hwy 10 and Hwy 23 will remain open to one lane of traffic, each direction, 24-7. All access ramps at the interchange and the Fourth St. intersection, eastbound Hwy 10 and the W Frontage Rd. will remain closed.
Consider these tips
- Expect changes and give yourself extra time. Try to travel outside of rush hour times.
- Cabin and vacation travelers who normally take Hwy 10 may want to consider using another route.
- Know before you go. Use 511mn.org
- See current travel speeds
- Be aware of crashes or closures
- Learn about other roadwork or detours on state highways
- Be alert to weather conditions and warnings
When open to travelers in November 2024, the interchange project will provide a smoother road surface, and improve motorist and pedestrian safety and access throughout. This is a long-term, 60-plus year investment in our infrastructure.
We will provide more information about upcoming impacts on the Hwy 10 and 23—St. Cloud interchange project web page or through these project email updates as details become available.
