The intersection of Highway 59 and Highway 108 east/W Mill opened this week, and is now serving as the cross street through town! We appreciate your patience as everyone gets used to the new in-town route.
Week 9 construction progress
Concrete crews continued downtown this week, pouring the sidewalks and boulevards in the Stage 1A section of the project! They also poured the center median along the bridge, in preparation for bridge crews to return next week, weather permitting, to pour the overlay on the bridge deck. Important note: there may be some additional short-term daily closures north of the bridge to accommodate the equipment and trucks needed for that work.
Reminder to pedestrians and motorists: Disturbed concrete will have to be removed and re-installed. Please help us keep things moving by being alert and cautious, and never enter an area blocked by tape/ribbon, barriers or cones. Your cooperation is important! Thank you!!
On the south end of Stage 1A into Stage 1B, between Third Avenue and Fifth Avenue, crews continue with utility replacements. Between First Avenue and Second Avenue, crews have been getting the roadway and sidewalk areas dried out and placing sand in preparation for concrete and future paving. The warmer days this week are definitely welcomed to aid in drying up the wet conditions.
Utility replacements continue in Stage 1A and begin in Stage 1B
Crews begin placing sand along Highway 59.

Safety & detour reminders
We have detour routes set up for every type of road user. Trucks and thru-traffic should follow the signed routes out of town, city residents and visitors can follow the in-town detour route, and if you are walking, biking or rolling through town, please follow the signed pedestrian routes. We know it may be inconvenient at times, and you may need to walk a block or two out of the way to get around, but your cooperation is important for your safety.
Pelican Rapids businesses are OPEN during construction, so follow the various detours to best navigate around the work zone and stop in to support them!
If you don't have a destination in Pelican Rapids and want to avoid backups, we advise using the thru-traffic/truck routes out of town to get to the lakes or other destinations. See the map for the thru-traffic route options, depending on your direction of travel.

No weekly meeting on June 19 for Juneteenth
Next week, on June 19, we will not host our usual weekly in-person update at the library in observance of Juneteenth. Our regular weekly schedule will resume the following week on June 26.
Remember, you can join us at the Pelican Rapids Public Library each Wednesday, noon to 12:30 p.m., for weekly in-person construction updates. Business liaison Brent Frazier, and representatives from MnDOT and Landwehr Construction will be there to share updates and answer questions!
*Meetings are subject to change based on interest and attendance.
View the recordings of the weekly public meetings on the library's Youtube page. Due to the set up of the room and number of attendees, audio is tricky so we appreciate your patience with the recordings' sound.
If you have a question about the project, but can't make it to the weekly meetings, please call the project Helpline 218-517-9848 at any time.

- The city has set up cameras in downtown Pelican Rapids, so you can check in on the construction progress live! Go to the Pelican Rapids city website for links to the cameras.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution, slow down in work zones where workers are present, and never enter an area that's blocked by barriers or cones.
