Michels Road & Stone Update
A message to homeowners and property owners along Hwy 220
This week we have been crushing the old concrete pavement and laying down the fabric that goes under the stone base that we will be laying down before we pave back in the new concrete pavement.
Starting next week will be using a bulldozer to cut the roadside berm back the entire length of the project. The reasoning for doing this is for laying down the fabric previously mentioned. Wednesday the berm will be then sprayed with a grass seed and fertilizer product to stabilize the areas. We are still doing our best to try and keep one lane of travel open but with the current rains it is becoming an unsurmountable task. We apologize for the delays and issues at which this may be causing the residents This will cause delays during traveling to and from your home. We will always do our best to make this transition as smooth as possible.
Please use caution while traveling through the worksite. There will be many obstacles such as loose gravel, bumps, large equipment, workers, muddy conditions and many other things that could arise while moving through the project area. Please be as careful as possible around the obstacles that you will encounter. This is a full reconstruction of the road and needs our full attention on completion of the project.
Please, when possible, use the marked detour route to get to the nearest intersection of your home to make this a smoother project for everyone involved.
Sincerely, Richard S. Sexton Project Manager Michels Road and Stone 219-405-1145 rsexton@michels.us
MNDOT strives to maintain access to residents and businesses during construction except for short periods of time, which cannot be avoided. When an access may be closed for a short duration, the resident or business owner will be directly contacted by the contractor to make accommodations.
Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:
- Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.
- Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
- Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
- Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
- Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
