Michels Road & Stone Update
You noticed that work has started at the North end of the project with the initial steps to removing the old pavement. Construction operations will continue to take place. Work consists of removing old pavement, replacing and repairing old utilities along with many other operations. These activities do require us to leave only one lane of travel for a short period of time. This will cause delays during traveling to and from your home. We will always do our best to make this transition as smooth as possible.
Please use caution while traveling through the worksite. There will be many obstacles such as loose gravel, bumps, large equipment, workers, and many other things that could arise while moving through the project area. Please be as careful as possible around the obstacles that you will encounter. This is a full reconstruction of the road and needs our full attention on completion of the project.
Please, when possible, use the marked detour route to get to the nearest intersection of your home to make this a smoother project for everyone involved. If you have any questions, concerns and/or issues regarding the project, please contact me with any questions that may come up. Thank you very much for your time and patience during this process.
Sincerely, Richard S. Sexton Project Manager Michels Road and Stone 219-405-1145 rsexton@michels.us
MNDOT strives to maintain access to residents and businesses during construction except for short periods of time, which cannot be avoided. When an access may be closed for a short duration, the resident or business owner will be directly contacted by the contractor to make accommodations.
Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:
- Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.
- Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
- Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
- Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
- Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.

For residents and property owners along Highway 220, please note the following:
- Business and residential accesses are being maintained but be aware of restrictions and delays in the areas where crews are working.
-
Regarding mail delivery, other delivery services in the area, and necessary services, we will be working through the project to keep those services as fluid as possible. The Grand Forks Post Office has been contacted and is aware of the situation.
- Michels Road & Stone will be in contact with residents along the project who may have impacts to their driveway.
