What's happening now?
- Crews have installed catch basins and storm sewer on the northeast corner of the project site.
- Installation of concrete median barrier that will separate two lanes of traffic from the work zone.
- Tree removals have been completed for the project.
- Crews began work installing storm sewer on west side of Hwy 11 as well as city water main relocations.
What's next?
- Next week the contractor will be removing pavement, sidewalk, curb and gutter on the eastbound lanes within the work zone.
- Installation of storm sewer will proceed south through the project with temporary driveway closures.
The contractor for this $17.5 million dollar project is Spruce Valley. This project will create a safer, longer lasting driving surface as well as improve drainage, pedestrian accessibility, and a safer intersection. It is estimated to be complete by October 2024, and resume in the spring of 2025, weather permitting. Important reminders for motorists regarding work zone safety:
- Slow down when approaching every work zone, then navigate through with care and caution.
- Stay alert; work zones constantly change.
- Watch for workers and slow-moving equipment.
- Obey posted speed limits. Fine for a violation in a work zone is $300.
- Minimize distractions behind the wheel.
- Be patient; expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
