We look forward to keeping you up-to-date as construction begins April 15 in Pelican Rapids! Starting Monday, Highway 59 will close between the Pelican River bridge and 4th Avenue SE for Stage 1A of the project.
The project will be completed in stages over the next two years. Year one in 2024 will focus on Highway 59, and year two in 2025, will focus on Highway 108.
April 16 public open house
MnDOT will host a public open house on Tuesday, April 16, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the Pelican Rapids Public Library, 25 W. Mill. No formal presentation planned, so stop in whenever it’s convenient to ask questions and meet the construction team.
Businesses are OPEN
Although a portion of Highway 59 is closing for Stage 1A of the project, Pelican Rapids businesses will be open during construction! There will be signed detours using city streets for navigation in-town.
From the north/west, you'll use 1st Street SW. Continue to Great Northern Road (one-way southbound traffic only) and 5th Avenue S to get back to Highway 59 or to cross Highway 59 to go east/Highway 108 east.
From the south, you'll use Fifth Avenue S to go east or west. Going east from there, take First Street SE to Highway 108 east. Going west/north, take First Street SW (one-way northbound traffic only, behind the school), back to Highway 108 west or Highway 59 north.

Trucks and thru-traffic
If you don't have a destination in Pelican Rapids, there will be other thru-traffic detour routes you can take. Routes will vary depending on direction of travel and vehicle/load weight.
For more information about the project, please visit the project website.
All construction activities and traffic impacts are weather dependent and subject to change. MnDOT urges motorists to always be attentive, drive with caution and slow down in work zones where workers are present.
