2023 Construction:
Highway 34 - CR 29 to Osage

Paving was completed this week, but there's still a lot to get done before the roadway can reopen! For the safety of the workers, residents and the traveling public, the roadway remains closed to thru-traffic. If you must travel on Highway 34, please drive with extreme caution and slow down! It is still an active work zone throughout all 21-miles of the project and road work is still underway. Your cooperation is important and appreciated. 

If you don't have a destination on Highway 34, please use the thru-traffic detour on County Road 47, Highway 87 and County Road 29 to avoid significant work zone delays. 

Final striping starts next week!

Earlier this week, paving was completed on Highway 34—a very exciting milestone on the project! Shouldering on the east half, between County Road 37/Toad Lake and County Road 26/47, is currently underway, and crews are finishing up turf establishment and seeding on the west half, between County Road 37/Toad Lake and County Road 29. 

In all areas where crews are working, expect to encounter lane closures and flaggers. 

Next week, starting Monday, Sept. 25, weather permitting, final striping will begin at County Road 29 (Four Corners), with operations moving east. Crews will start with the centerline stripes and rumble strips. There will be lane closures with flaggers and pilot cars during this work—please follow their instructions!

Once the centerline striping is completed, crews will then work on the edge lines and rumbles, starting in the east half, then in the west half. Once the final striping is done, crews will return to the east half to work on turf establishment and seeding. 

As a reminder, if you don't have a destination on Highway 34, please continue to use the detour to avoid work zone delays. If you must travel on Highway 34, please slow down and drive with extreme caution.

All schedules and work plans are subject to change at any time based on weather, contractor schedules or other unforeseen circumstances or issues. The overall project is expected to be completed by mid-October.
