2023 Construction:
Highway 34 - CR 29 to Osage

Just a couple more weeks of work to go on Highway 34, folks! Paving, shouldering and turf work continue, so expect to encounter flaggers, pilot cars and lane closures in the areas where crews are working. 

The thru-traffic detour remains in place on County Road 47, Highway 87 and County Road 29. If you don't have a destination on Highway 34, it is advised that you take the detour to avoid significant work zone delays. 

As a reminder, please drive with extreme caution throughout the entire work zone, obey flaggers and wait patiently for pilot cars. If you are accessing Highway 34 from a side street, please remember to wait for a pilot car before entering to ensure you do not meet head-to-head traffic on one-lane roads or drive over hot asphalt. Your cooperation is important and appreciated. 

Construction progress: the end is in sight! 

On the west half of the project, between County Road 37/Toad Lake and County Road 29, crews are working on turf establishment and seeding along the roadside. Watch for flaggers and lane closures in these areas. 

On the east half, between County Road 37/Toad Lake and County Road 26/47, paving operations continue and are expected to wrap up early next week. As a reminder, there are significant delays in this area while paving takes place. Be prepared to meet multiple flaggers and pilot cars, long waits and periodic stops.

Although paving will be wrapping up, there is still a lot that needs to get done before the road can reopen to all traffic. Sign installation, shouldering on the east half, turf work along the entire corridor, and final striping with rumble strips will take place over the next two weeks. During all of this work, local traffic can expect daily lane closures and flaggers.

If you don't have a destination on Highway 34, please continue to use the detour to avoid significant work zone delays. 

All schedules and work plans are subject to change at any time based on weather, contractor schedules or other unforeseen circumstances or issues. The overall project is expected to be completed by mid-October.
