We hope everyone had a great time at Barnesville Potato Days last weekend!
On Monday, Aug. 28, crews got straight to work on Phase 2 on Highway 9/Main Avenue, between Front Street and Fourth Street in Barnesville. Main Avenue is now closed in this area and impassable to all traffic between Front Street and the railroad tracks for a few weeks.
In Phase 2, crews are wrapping up pavement and concrete removals, and will begin work on the underground utility replacements. In addition, there's been coordination with the railroad, who is expected to be on-site next week to complete work at the crossing.
There is still some concrete installation, landscaping and other miscellaneous work taking place in Phases 1 and 3. Please slow down in the work zone, watch for crews and give them plenty of space to work.
All work will pause in Barnesville from Saturday through Monday for Labor Day weekend. Crews will be back out on-site on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Important: even when workers aren't present, Main Avenue remains closed to all traffic. Please follow detour signs. Always use extreme caution when traveling in work zones, and never enter a roadway that's been blocked by barricades and cones.
Travel plans for the weekend? Most work on state highway projects will pause for Labor Day weekend, but you will still encounter work zones statewide. Highway 9 thru-traffic remains detoured to Interstate 94 and County Road 30 until the project is completed in October.
Residential and business access is being maintained at all times, but local traffic should expect restrictions in the areas where crews are working. Barnesville businesses remain open during construction, so check in with the business to get the best route to their location.
