Hwy 34 box culvert replacement complete!
The box culvert replacement at the Shell River on Highway 34 has been completed and is now passable to local traffic. Crews finished up the work at the box culvert over the weekend, two weeks ahead of schedule!
The thru-traffic detour remains in place on County Road 47, Highway 87 and County Road 29, but Highway 34 residents and other local traffic can now access the work zone from the east.
As a reminder, please drive with extreme caution throughout the entire work zone, obey flaggers and wait patiently for pilot cars. If you are accessing Highway 34 from a side street, please remember to wait for a pilot car before entering to ensure you do not meet head-to-head traffic on one-lane roads or drive over hot asphalt. Your cooperation is important and appreciated.
All work will pause on Highway 34 starting Friday afternoon through Monday for Labor Day weekend. Crews will be back out on-site on Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Important: even when workers aren't present, Highway 34 is still an active work zone and the road remains closed to thru-traffic. If you have a destination on Highway 34, please slow down, watch for bumps, loose gravel and uneven surfaces. Always drive with extreme caution.
Work zone snapshot for next two weeks:
-
West half, between County Road 37/Toad Lake and County Road 29 - Paving expected to wrap up today, Aug. 28! In the upcoming weeks, local traffic can still expect lane closures, flaggers and pilot cars along the west half of the project as crews complete shouldering and other remaining work.
-
East half, between County Road 37/Toad Lake and County Road 26/47 - Milling, reclaiming and paving continue east of Toad Lake. Expect significant delays, long waits, periodic stops, multiple flaggers and pilot cars through mid-September.
-
Intersection of Highway 34 and County Road 26/47 - Turn lane installation starts this week. Prepare for lane closures and flaggers at the intersection for at least one week.
Thru-traffic: If you don't have a destination on Highway 34, take the detour route on County Road 47, Highway 87 and County Road 29.
All schedules and work plans are subject to change at any time based on weather, contractor schedules or other unforeseen circumstances or issues. The overall project is expected to be completed by mid-October.
