Starting Wednesday, Aug. 16 through Wednesday, Aug. 23, With the first layer (lift) of pavement complete on Phase 1 (Main Avenue to Highway 34), Highway 9/Front Street will reopen to local traffic only from Main Avenue to Highway 34 by 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15! Crews will still be hard at work in Phase 1, so please give them a friendly wave and plenty of space to work if you're passing by.
Starting Wednesday, Aug. 16, crews will begin milling and paving in Phase 3 (Highway 34 to I-94)! Local traffic should expect to encounter periodic stops, long delays, gravel surfaces, flaggers and pilot car in Phase 3 through Saturday, Aug. 19. Please obey traffic control. During paving, traffic could be stopped for up to 15 minutes to allow the new pavement surface to cool before driving on it. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated.
The week of Aug. 21, crews will jump back to Phase 1 to complete the final lift of pavement. All paving is expected to be completed prior to Barnesville Potato Days!
Then, tentatively scheduled to start the week of Aug. 28, the contractor will begin work on Phase 2 on Highway 9/Main Avenue, between Front Street and Fourth Avenue. The roadway will be impassable to all traffic from Front Street to the railroad tracks.
Highway 9 thru-traffic remains detoured to I-94 and County Road 30 until the project is complete in September.
