As concrete crews continue working on Phase 1 concrete work (curb and gutter, sidewalks and the shared-use path), paving crews will begin paving on Friday, Aug. 11, on Highway 9/Front Street from Main Avenue through the Highway 34 intersection.
Motorists should expect to encounter periodic stops, long delays and flaggers at the Highway 9/Highway 34 intersection on Friday and Saturday, August 11-12. Please obey traffic control. During paving, traffic could be stopped for up to 15 minutes to allow the new pavement surface to cool before driving on it. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated.
This will be the first layer (lift) of pavement in Phase 1. Once all phases are complete, crews will pave another lift along the entire project area.
Highway 9 thru-traffic remains detoured to I-94 and County Road 30.
Local traffic impacts in Phase 3 begin
To help mitigate some of the traffic impacts during harvest season, work has also started taking place in the Phase 3 work zone (Highway 34 to I-94). This week and next week, crews are working on the turn lane at the County Road 55 intersection. They have also started work on culvert replacements.
Project phases
Phase 1: Highway 34 to Main Avenue. Expected to take approx. 3 months.
Phase 2: Main Avenue from Fourth Street to Front Street. Expected to take up to 6 weeks.
Phase 3: Hwy 34 to Interstate 94. At least one lane will always be open to local traffic, utilizing flaggers and/or a pilot car.

**Reminder: Construction schedules are always subject to change without warning due to weather, contractor workplans, or any unforeseen delays or issues.
Residential and business access is being maintained at all times, but local traffic should expect restrictions in the areas where crews are working. Depending on your destination, you will need to use local streets to get around construction.
Barnesville businesses remain open during construction! Check in with the business to get the best route to their location.
If your destination does not fall within the work zone, please take the detour or find an alternate route.
