Phase 1 of the Highway 9 reconstruction project in Barnesville is moving along at a good pace. This week, concrete crews will be on-site prepping to install curb and gutter along Front Street, and sidewalk installation will follow. There may be some additional pedestrian restrictions in this area while that work is taking place.
This week (starting tomorrow July 18) and next week, motorists will encounter additional lane closures and flaggers at the Highway 9 and Highway 34 intersection. Crews will be finishing reconstructing the intersection. This work was supposed to take place later on in the project, but in working with the City of Barnesville, the schedule was adjusted to get the intersection work completed now to accommodate Potato Days.
During this work, there will be lane closures with flaggers directing traffic to take turns in the intersection. Please obey traffic control.
When the work in the intersection are completed, the road surface will remain gravel until phase one paving takes place.
Highway 9 thru-traffic remains detoured to I-94 and County Road 30.
Project phases
Phase 1: Highway 34 to Main Avenue. Expected to take approx. 3 months.
Phase 2: Main Avenue from Fourth Street to Front Street. Expected to take up to 6 weeks.
Phase 3: Hwy 34 to Interstate 94. At least one lane will always be open to local traffic, utilizing flaggers and/or a pilot car.

Residential and business access is being maintained at all times, but local traffic should expect restrictions in the areas where crews are working. Depending on your destination, you will need to use local streets to get around construction.
Barnesville businesses remain open during construction! Check in with the business to get the best route to their location.
If your destination does not fall within the work zone, please take the detour or find an alternate route. Your cooperation and patience is appreciated!
