Get the scoop on 2023 construction
You're invited to come and visit with the 169 Redefine project team and learn about 2023 construction plans and impacts through Elk River.
Public meeting
- Tues, March 21
4-6 p.m. Elk River City Hall 13065 Orono Parkway Elk River, MN 55330
The event is drop-in style to better fit individual schedules. Guests may arrive at any time to learn, ask questions and then leave at their convenience.
In 2023, crews will construct two new interchanges on Hwy 169 at School St. and Jackson/193rd Ave. Construction includes freeway lanes, adjacent city roads and sidewalk connections, utilities and underground infrastructure.
Overall, Hwy 169 will be reduced to one lane in both directions between Main St. and 197th Ave. By early April, access will close to/from Hwy 169 at School St. and 193rd Ave. Temporary access will be available; however, expect changes.
In 2022, crews improved access at the Hwy 10/101/169 interchange, reconstructed the northbound Hwy 101/169 bridge over Hwy 10 and constructed a new interchange at Hwy 169 and 197th Ave.
In 2024, a new interchange will be constructed at Hwy 169 and Main St.
Unable to attend? That's ok, we'll continue to send project email updates and post information to the 169 Redefine project website.
Map shows work areas through Elk River that will have multiple crews working in 2023. In late March, motorists will encounter periodic lane, shoulders or median closures within the work zone.
Crews plan to resume year two construction in mid-March, weather permitt.
Here's a tentative schedule between mid-March and mid-April:
- Periodic lane closures along northbound Hwy 169 to install noise wall panels between posts
- Periodic lane closures on Hwy 169 to construct temporary bypass lanes on the west side of southbound Hwy 169
- Access will close to/from School St. and Jackson/193rd Ave. Remove signals and begin bridge construction
Once the work zone is set, Hwy 169 will be reduced to one-lane, each direction, 24-7, onto the southbound side as crews construct the northbound road/bridges.
Access will be open and maintained to those who work, visit, or live along Hwy 169 in Elk River; however, expect changes and seek alternate routes.
- Hwy 169 access will be open at Hwy 10, Main St. and 197th Ave. Also, temporary accesses will be available between:
- Holt St. and southbound Hwy 169
- Northbound Hwy 169 and Evans St.
Information is weather permitting.
