MnDOT and its partners provide free workforce training for eligible women, minority, and disadvantaged participants in 2023. Participants must be at least 18 years-old, have a valid driver's license and a high school diploma or GED. They must also have skills in basic math and in English reading and speaking.
Training is offered in Southern Minnesota and in the Metro area.
Metro area
Highway heavy carpenter training in St. Paul
Receive an introduction to highway heavy carpentry. Learn safety training, blueprint reading, concrete forms and welding. MnDOT offers this course in partnership with the Carpenters Training Institute.

Cement Mason-Labor training in New Brighton
Learn hands-on how to work on MnDOT highway construction projects as a laborer. Receive support to find and keep employment. MnDOT offers this course in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED).
- April 17 – May 19, 2023 (five weeks)

Get hands-on experience in highway heavy construction labor. Gain access to placement assistance and services that help you enter the construction industry. MnDOT offers this training in partnership with Workforce Development, Inc.
