D6 - Hwy 43 in Winona: 2022 road reconstruction
Construction continues on the Hwy 43 project in Winona – please be alert for traffic changes as the work progresses.
Remember that daylight saving time ends this weekend, so starting on Sunday, there will be less daylight in the afternoon and evening. Thank you for choosing to drive safely. Your attention in the work zone helps everyone get home safely each night.
Here is an update on current construction and the work ahead.
Construction work
- Watch for a traffic switch next week at Sarnia St. Paving work will wrap up soon and traffic will be switched, so crews can build the other half of the roundabout at this intersection.
- Bruski Dr remains closed on the east side of Hwy 43/Mankato Ave as crews continue to install a City of Winona storm sewer and watermain. To reach destinations off of Bruski Dr, go to Riverbend Rd, turn right and follow Menard Rd south (right turn) back to Bruski Drive.
- Curb, gutter and sidewalk concrete work is also advancing south and is a sign that the area is getting closer to paving and eventual completion.
- Construction work is expected to be completed later in November, weather permitting. MnDOT will announce the completion date when the work is nearing the end.
- Left turns on Hwy 43/Mankato Ave are not allowed. No left turn signs are present as you approach intersections as well as drive into the intersections. Trying to make left turns will cause traffic backups, and there will be times that those side road entrances will be closed for construction.
- If you are going southbound and you want to go east onto Riverbend Rd or Frontenac Dr, you will have to go south to the Hwy 61/43 roundabout and come back north and turn right onto your desired street. View a map here.
- If you are going northbound and you want to go west onto Parks Ave south, Riverbend Rd or Parks Ave north, you will have to take a right turn at one of the intersections going east, go around the block and travel west straight across Mankato Ave. View a map here.
- All businesses can be accessed through the work zone.
- Remember to view the overhead signs at the Hwy 61/Hwy 43 roundabout that direct you to which lane is best for the direction you want to travel after you exit the roundabout.
