Crews reconstruct entrances along Hwy 371

Good news—Now open

Crews poured the concrete median at the Green Gables Rd. (Co. Rd. 126) entrance to/from Hwy 371. The new entrance opened Oct. 7, in time for the weekend.

Also, the new Brainerd International Raceway (BIR) entrance was paved and reopened to travelers at Hwy 371 and Birchdale Rd. 

Co. Rd. 125/Gull Lake Dam Rd. detour uses Hartley Lake Rd. and Green Gables Rd.

Gull Lake Dam Rd. closes Mon, Oct. 10 

Workers will switch gears on Monday, Oct. 10, as they close and detour Gull Lake Dam Rd. (Co. Rd. 125) between Hwy 371 and the frontage road. Motorists to follow detour signs along Hartley Lake Rd. and Green Gables Rd. back to Hwy 371. The Gull Lake Dam Rd. detour/hard closure is for paving operations Oct. 10-14.

The west frontage road and south gas station entrances from Gull Lake Dam Rd. will also close; use Hwy 371 for access. 

All the work at this intewill occur Monday morning until noon Friday and will take a few weeks to complete. Please add extra time onto your commute. Be watchful for pedestrians or school children waiting for buses along the neighborhood detour route.

Periodic lane, shoulder closures 

Hwy 371 is an active work zone from south of Gull Lake Dam Rd. to Soder Rd. until Nov. 1. Expect periodic lane or shoulder closures, reduced speeds, narrowed lanes or no shoulders. Work will occur Monday morning until noon Friday.

New set-up to be a learning curve

Access is maintained, but you'll see changes along Hwy 371 as improved entrances and intersections (RCIs) open.  Please slow down, follow signs and be watchful for others learning the area.

Work operations will suspend over winter, and in June 2023, crews will return to complete any remaining work, mainly frontage road construction.

More about this Hwy 371 project

The project will improve access and safety along two miles of Hwy 371 by installing three reduced conflict intersections (RCI), also known as j-turns, at Gull Lake Dam Rd., Birchdale Rd. (BIR main entrance) and Green Gables Rd. The two-year project will also replace underground pipes and repair ditch drainage; reconstruct and extend both frontage roads along Hwy 371; and resurface work areas, including shoulders and entrances.
