D6 – Hwy 52 Zumbrota to Cannon Falls: 2021-2023 construction improvements

Access to Hwy 52 closed at 90th, 100th, 110th Aves., in Goodhue County; 415th St. closed for frontage road construction

Permanent access closures in Goodhue County to Hwy 52 are in place at 90^th Avenue, 100^th Avenue, 110^th Avenue, and 415^th Street at Hwy 52 is closed to build a frontage road.

Access closures

Following completion of cul-de-sac construction at these avenues between Hader and Goodhue County Road 1, permanent township road access closures to Hwy 52 are in place. The access closures to Hwy 52 are at 90^th Avenue, 100^th Avenue, and 110^th Avenue. These closures will improve long-term safety along Hwy 52 by reducing uncontrolled intersection access.

Signs are placed on the roads and near approach roads to inform motorists of the closures and guide them to routes to access Hwy 52. Barricades are also in place at the new cul-de-sacs and motorists should not drive around them to access the highway. Doing so is illegal and dangerous.

Frontage road construction

Access to homes on 415^th Street and for residents to get to Hwy 52 - take Hwy 57 to Hwy 60 to Hwy 52 in Zumbrota. There will not be access to Hwy 52 or from Hwy 52.

Project schedule

Work scheduled for completion this year and in 2023 is:

 2022

• Rebuild Hwy 52 southbound from (4,000 feet north) Goodhue County Road 9 to Goodhue County Road 50
• Build a new interchange at the intersection of Hwy 57/Goodhue County Road 8 and Hwy 52
• Replace the southbound bridge over Hwy 52 for Hwy 60 East
• Build Goodhue County Road 14 connection, frontage roads, and cul de sacs

 2023

• Replace the Hwy 52 southbound bridge over the Zumbro River
• Reconstruct Hwy 52 southbound from Goodhue County Road 24 in Cannon Falls to (4,000 feet) north of County Road 9
• Reconstruct Hwy 52 southbound from County Road 50 to 1.3 miles north of Goodhue County Road 7
• Construct frontage roads and cul de sacs
• Construct noise wall along northbound Hwy 52 south of Hwy 58 interchange at Zumbrota

Safety

Motorists may encounter lane closures or lane shifts, uneven road surfaces, equipment and other unexpected obstacles when driving near or through work zones. MnDOT advises motorists to: 

• Expect delays, especially during peak travel times
• Go hands-free and minimize other distractions (e.g., don’t eat or drink while driving)
• Follow posted speed limits; the fine for speeding in a work zone is $300
• Avoid making lane changes within work zones
