It's hard to believe it's already August! Summer may be closer to wrapping up, but that doesn't mean that road construction is slowing down. Work on Highway 200 continues between Mahnomen and Roy Lake. Conditions have been wet and rainy, causing some challenges during this year's construction, but crews are making progress! Here's what's been taking place and what's coming up:
Grade change near Roy Lake
On the east side of the project near Roy Lake, crews replaced culverts (both centerline and entrance pipes) and made adjustments to the road grade (lowered the road). As of this week, they are finishing up paving in this area too!
Crews pave on the east end of the Hwy 200 project near Roy Lake
Shoulder widening
Crews have also been working on the shoulder widening, focused mostly east of the Twin Lakes Creek bridge. Once the work near Roy Lake is done, that crew will move west of the bridge to begin shoulder widening on the other side too.
There's a total of 20+ miles of shoulder widening to be done, so having two crews working simultaneously will move us closer to completion!
Bridge replacement at Twin Lakes Creek
The bridge is out at Twin Lakes Creek for replacement. Due to high water levels that delayed the start of the bridge construction, and some supply delays, adjustments have had to be made to the bridge replacement schedule. We now expect the bridge to be out until the end of September. We apologize for any inconveniences this may cause.
Bridge abutment is poured at Twin Lakes Creek on Hwy 200
This week, the first abutment (connection between the bridge deck and road) was poured, with the other one planned for next week. Then, during the week of August 15, crews will set the bridge beams, and the bridge deck will be poured toward the end of the month. From there, the concrete will take approximately one month to fully cure before the bridge can be reopened.
If you have a destination on Highway 200, remember that the road is impassable at Twin Lakes Creek and you will need to follow the detour or find an alternate route around the bridge site.
All thru-traffic should continue to follow the detour: Highway 59, Highway 113 and CR 39.
