Crews are nearing the finish line with construction on Highway 55 between Wendell and the State Line! The roadway has been closed between Highway 9 and ND Highway 127 for Stages 2 and 3 of construction as crews finished up the final two box culvert replacements, located west of Highway 9 and west of Highway 75. Paving has now started in Stage 3, between North Dakota and Hwy 75. Paving has also been completed in Stage 1, and final striping and new signage to come!
As a reminder, the staging is:
- Stage 1, from County Road 11 in Wendell to Highway 9
- Stage 2, from Highway 9 to Highway 75
- Stage 3, from Highway 75 to the MN/ND state line
Overall, the project is expected to wrap up in mid-July.

 Crews replaced the box culvert located west of Highway 9. During the work, the water was diverted around the box culvert site. That trench has been filled in now that the new culverts are on-line.

Current detour information
Depending on direction of travel, traffic is being detoured to Highway 9, Highway 75, MN Wilkin County Road 6/ND Richland County Road 16, and ND Highway 127.
For motorists traveling on Highway 75, use Highway 9 to travel east back to Highway 55, and County Road 6 to travel west into North Dakota. In addition, Highway 75 will remain open at the Highway 55 intersection for cross-traffic, although there will be some restrictions at the intersection during paving. More information to come out on that once a date is determined.
 Other traffic impacts
In addition to the Highway 55 project, Highway 9 is closed between Highway 55 and Highway 27 for the bridge replacement project at the Mustinka River near Norcross. For that project, traffic is being detoured to Highway 27 and Highway 75 until the end of August. Depending on your destination and direction of travel, you may encounter both project detours on your route. For more information about the Highway 9 project, visit the project website.
