As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day, and that same cliché applies to a new bridge. It's been a little over a month now since crews broke ground on the Highway 29 overpass project near Glenwood, and the foundational elements are beginning to take shape.
When things first got started, winter was hanging on tight, hitting crews with several days of blowing snow and frigid conditions, just within the first week of construction! But they kept at it and were able to drive pile and have formed the first sets of footings and piers for the bridge.
Completed work
- Embankment north of railroad tracks
- Pier 1
Upcoming Schedule
- Pour cap on Pier 2
- Construct Pier 3
In mid-June, motorists should be prepared for additional traffic changes. First, traffic will switch to the new Highway 55 alignment. At that time, Highway 29 will close to the south and the new Highway 55 will be used as part of the detour route. Then, crews will get started on the south side of the bridge and the roundabout at Highway 29/160th Street. More information to come as we get closer to that work starting!

In addition to the closure on Highway 29 for the overpass project, there are work zones in place all across the entire state May 26-30. While most of that work will be paused over the holiday weekend, be sure to check the 511MN app or 511mn.org to plan for possible detours or lane closures on your route.
