We're one week away from construction starting on Highway 200! On Monday, May 16, Highway 200 will close between Mahnomen and Roy Lake for road construction. Traffic will be detoured to Highway 59, Highway 113 and County Road 39.
This year, the Minnesota Department of Transportation, in coordination with White Earth Nation, will complete shoulder widening along Highway 200 from the Wild Rice River east of Mahnomen to Roy Lake. In addition to widening, the project also includes bridge replacement, pavement repairs, culvert replacements, turn lanes, and other safety and pedestrian accessibility improvements.
What to expect during construction
From May 16 through August, Highway 200 will close as contractor crews replace the bridge at Twin Lakes Creek. During the bridge replacement, Highway 200 will be impassable at the bridge site. Local traffic – those who have a destination within the work zone – will need to take the detour or find an alternate route around the bridge.
Shoulder-widening operations will also begin, with crews starting on the east end near Roy Lake, moving west. Local traffic can expect lane closures in the areas where crews are working. Throughout the duration of construction, driveway access will be maintained.
The overall project is expected to be completed in October.
