Z ARCHIVE D3 - Hwy 169 Redefine - Elk River freeway: 2022-2024 construction
As of 5 a.m. Monday, May 9, both work zones are set and freeway and bridge construction is in full force at the Hwy 10/101/169 interchange and at Hwy 169 and 197th Ave.
MnDOT would like to thank you for your patience this past weekend as we closed Hwy 10 to remove the northbound Hwy 101/169 bridge.

Hwy 10/101/169 interchange work zone
Hwy 101/169 and Hwy 10 is reduced to one lane in each direction, 24/7, through the interchange work zone until Nov. 1. Expect some access/ramp changes, follow signs.
Both directions of Hwy 101/169 are on the southbound side as crews construct the northbound road/bridges at Hwy 10 and 197th Ave. Both directions of Hwy 10 have been separated by a concrete barrier to protect motorists and workers while the new bridge abutments and pier are worked on.
 Work began right away Tuesday, May 3 at Hwy 169 and 197th Ave.

Hwy 169 is reduced to one lane in each direction, 24/7, through the 197th Ave. work zone until Nov. 1. Traffic is on the southbound side as crews construct the northbound road/ bridge.
197th Ave. is closed to/from Hwy 169 between Irving St./Holt St. and Evans St.
Access is maintained to businesses and residents along Hwy 169 in Elk River, however, expect changes. A signed pedestrian detour will be provided along local side streets.
Crews continue to monitor the frontage road access along Evans St. and will activate the temporary signal at 193rd Ave., if warranted. At this time it does not.

If you are heading up north this weekend to participate in the Saturday, May 14 Fishing Opener, you'll want to plan ahead before you head out. Be prepared for slow or stopped traffic, especially at these peak travel times through Elk River:

Weekend begins: Westbound Hwy 10 and northbound Hwy 101/169 from Friday afternoon through the late evening

Weekend ends: Eastbound Hwy 10 and southbound Hwy 101/169 from Sunday afternoon through the early evening

- Add extra travel time to your trip
- Pay attention to the road and vehicles in front of you
- Expect changes to access
- Do the zipper merge, watch and follow signs

When the freeway is complete in 2024, the project will improve traffic flow, increase capacity and reduce bottle necks, and improve motorist and pedestrian safety along three miles of Hwy 169 in Elk River, Sherburne County.
