Metro – Hwy 10 Anoka: 2022-2024 construction
Consider alternative east/west routes to avoid delays.
If your weekend plans include travel northwest of the Twin Cities Metro area, please be aware of two closures on Hwy 10 in Anoka and Elk River.
Beginning at 10 p.m. Fri, May 6, MnDOT crews will close Hwy 10 in both directions between Hwy 47/Ferry St. and 7th Ave. in Anoka until 5 a.m. Mon, May 9. During the weekend closure, crews will be removing and replacing utilities under Hwy 10 near 4th Ave.
At the same time, Hwy 10 in Elk River will close in both directions at the Hwy 10/101/169 interchange so construction crews can remove the northbound Hwy 101/169 bridge over Hwy 10. This portion of the highway will also close at 10 p.m. on Fri, May 6 and reopen at 5 a.m. Mon, May 9.
Drivers will be detoured on Hwy 610, I-94 and Hwy 101. Westbound motorists will be routed onto the detour for westbound motorists in Elk River to continue on westbound Hwy 10 (see below). If possible, westbound drivers should use I-94 to reach destinations west of the Twin Cities Metro area.
Residents in Anoka and Elk River should be aware that they may experience some noise, lights and vibration as crews work 24-hours a day throughout the weekend.
As we’ve already found out this year, all construction activities and traffic impacts are weather permitting and subject to change.
 More about these projects
MnDOT and the city of Anoka are working together to reconstruct and improve roads and bridges on Hwy 10 between Thurston Ave. and 7th Ave. through Anoka. When complete, the two-year Hwy 10 Anoka project will improve traffic flow, decrease traffic delays and increase safety. Construction is anticipated to be completed in spring 2024.
The three-mile, three-year 169 Redefine project will rebuild all four lanes of Hwy 169 and adjacent roadway connections as well as build new bridges, four new interchanges, city utilities and underground infrastructures and improve access at the Hwy 10/101/169 interchange. It includes replacement of the northbound Hwy 101/169 bridge over Hwy 10.
The 169 Redefine project is a partnership of MnDOT, city of Elk River and Sherburne County.
Drivers should plan for delays when travelling on Hwy 10.
