Portal for ArcGIS is Here!
Portal for ArcGIS is here! Portal is a new Web GIS tool at MnDOT that allows users to create, save, share, and search for GIS content at MnDOT.
Unlike ArcGIS Online (AGOL), saving content to the Portal Data Store does not consume credits! Users can access Portal using their standard Active Directory (AD) credentials. Connect to Portal content using a web browser, ArcGIS Desktop applications, and iOS mobile devices!
Portal guidance has been approved by the MnDOT Web GIS Admins and is available on iHUB. This document provides an overview of Portal at MnDOT. Topics include how to become a Portal member, roles, content, groups, sharing, and much more. Check it out!

What's New in the Metro District
 |
|
Metro District recently completed its annual construction map, which is an important project supporting Metro District’s engineers and planners. 2022 was Metro GIS Coordinator Joseph Mueller’s first year taking on the project, and he apprenticed under MNIT@MnDOT’s Matt Gress, who had been responsible for building this map for several years. GIS Strategic Plan Updates
The GIS Strategic Plan was presented in January to the Data Domains Stewards Governance Group, where it was approved. It was then presented in February to the Governance Committee for a lengthier review and agency approval decision.
If approved, the Strategic Plan will provide a common direction for GIS at MnDOT, clarify current GIS goals, and define requirements. The plan’s objectives will then be implemented through the GIS Operational Workplan, which will provide MnDOT’s GIS workgroups with workplans, action items, and deliverables, with the workgroup’s progress towards the plan’s goals overseen by the Steering Team. The Operational Workplan is under development by the GIS Strategic Planning Workgroup.

The Office of Land Management Seeks Your Feedback!
Do you use right of way data? Do you have any unmet GIS needs that the Office of Land Management could meet? As a part of the project planning process, we are seeking feedback from as many users of our data products as possible. In addition to the outreach meetings with district right of way and surveys staff scheduled in February and March, we invite anyone else to express their opinions or to comment on our efforts to transition right of way maps to GIS from their current static formats.
Please email Jose Aguilar, LIS & RW Mapping Supervisor at Jose.aguilar@state.mn.us to share your thoughts or request an outreach meeting.
