New Rigid Chair Announced

After 5 years of service as the chair of the Rigid team, Brett Trautman of the Missouri DOT has changed roles within the AASHTO organization and needed to step down. In a unanimous decision of the Rigid Team voting agency members, Ali Arabzadeh of the Wisconsin DOT has been named the new chair.

We give a sincere thanks for all that Brett has done to lead this team in the last five years. Brett will continue participating with NRRA and the Rigid Team as an agency member.

Meet Ali Arabzadeh

Ali is currently a Pavement Policy and Research Engineer at the Bureau of Technical Services (BTS) of Wisconsin DOT. In this role, he is involved with a variety of activities such as investigating new pavement-related technology developments and formulating policy recommendations affecting pavement preservation and design of highway projects. Prior to joining Wisconsin DOT, Ali was a Postdoc Researcher at Iowa State University (ISU), where he earned his doctorate degree in civil engineering (materials). During his PhD and Postdoc appointments at ISU, he was involved with many different projects funded by state and federal agencies. These projects focused on fabricating next-generation pavement materials with application in increasing the sustainability of pavement systems.

Feedback Needed on Flooded Pavements App

The Geotech and Flexible Teams project on a Flooded Pavements Assessment App is requesting feedback from all NRRA members for completion of Task 1. The project team provided a preview of the app at the February Geotech meeting. The private recording is available on our YouTube channel and also linked on the app website

The goal is for the NRRA community to provide feedback on the recently developed PaveSafe App for flooded pavement assessment and to help us strategize the research for the second phase of the project. The survey will be open until Monday March 7, 2022, and can be reached using this link: https://unh.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_804yvgTGqgKDjzE.
