The Stillwater Lift Bridge summer schedule on the St. Croix River ends at 11:59 p.m. Fri, Oct. 15.
The lift bridge will remain in the down position for pedestrian and bicycle use until spring 2022, unless a lift is requested. Boaters may schedule a bridge lift by calling 24 hours in advance to the Minnesota Department of Transportation, Metro District at 651-234-7110.
The lift bridge, spanning the St. Croix River, connects Minnesota to Wisconsin and was transformed into a bicycle/pedestrian crossing in June 2020 and continues to serve marine traffic. The bicycle/pedestrian bridge features include pedestrian ramps, gate arms, audio and visual systems that allow access throughout the lift bridge, the concourse leading up to the bridge and the trails leading into Wisconsin.
The iconic Stillwater lift bridge was built in 1931 and has become a much-loved symbol of the city of Stillwater, nestled on the west bank of the St. Croix River. The vertical lift highway bridge formerly connected Minnesota Hwy 36 in Stillwater and Wisconsin Hwy 64 in Houlton. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1989.
