2021 Construction: Hwy 12 Ortonville to Hwy 59

Culvert work in Stage 5, paving in Stages 3 & 4: Hwy 12 project update

If you live, work or travel in Ortonville, you'll notice that crews have officially made it to the west end of the project on Highway 12—Stage 5 (the final stage!) of construction. As with every stage, there's a lot to get done, including culvert replacements, shoulder widening, ditch grading and paving.

For reference, here are the five stages of construction:

• Stage 1: Highway 59 to Highway 119 
• Stage 2: Highway 119 to Big Stone County Road 80
• Stage 3: Big Stone CR 80 to Big Stone CR 23
• Stage 4: Big Stone CR 23 to Big Stone CR 21
• Stage 5: Big Stone CR 21 to Highway 75

Currently, crews are focused on the Stage 5 culvert work. Local traffic will encounter short-term closures and periodic stops in the areas where crews are working. Watch for loose gravel, heavy equipment and workers. Access is being maintained to driveways, but the direction of travel to exit/enter the work zone may change daily. If you live on the roadway, please feel free to check in with the crews on-site if you have questions about where to go. Additionally, crews have also started the Stage 5 shoulder widening and ditch grading.  As for the rest of the project, paving has started in Stages 3 and 4. This operation will move west to east, starting in Stage 4 at County Road 21, heading east to County Road 80 in Stage 3.

Reminder: Highway 12 remains closed to thru-traffic. If you do not have a destination along Highway 12, please continue to follow the detour route on Highway 75, Highway 7 and Highway 59.
