2021-22 Construction: Hwy 29 overpass near Glenwood
Things are coming along on Highway 55 and 160th Street in Glenwood! Crews have finished up storm sewer replacements and are now prepping the roadway surface for paving operations.
First up: the roundabout! The roundabout has been staked and concrete paving is expected to start next week, weather permitting. It will take several weeks of patience to let the concrete fully cure. Once that's done, they'll move onto paving 160th Street and the new Highway 55 alignment.
Why use concrete in the roundabout? For longevity! Concrete surfaces tend to hold up better and for longer. Because of the slow turning movements that take place in a roundabout, the pavement may be more susceptible to potential cracks and potholes. Using concrete will help extend the life of the roundabout surface.
As a reminder to all motorists, the work zone on Highway 55 falls between Highway 29 and 160th Street. In this section of the highway, traffic is not permitted to enter. There are barricades set up, and you will have to turn around. Please use the detour route on Highway 29 and Highway 28 in Glenwood.
If you have a destination on Highway 55 that's located south of 160th Street, you can still access the highway. Please follow the detour and enter/exit at the Highway 28 interchange.
- Continue grading
