2021 Construction: Hwy 87 Frazee to Becker/Wadena County Line
The month of August has flown by, and we are gearing up for paving to start! Since our last update, crews have finished culvert replacements and are currently on their last stretch of shoulder widening near Evergreen. They're also completing work at the Otter Tail River bridge, which remains closed to all traffic.
During the month of September, local traffic will encounter pilot cars and lane closures between Frazee and Evergreen. Please wait and follow the pilot car if traveling in the work zone. Expect short delays.
Reclaiming is expected to start as early as this week on the west end of the project near the Otter Tail River bridge in Frazee. During reclaiming, the existing roadway is chewed up and reused to create a strong road base for new pavement. They'll use a portion of the reclaimed materials to finish building up the shoulders, too.
Once reclaiming is done up to County Road 31, paving operations will begin, while reclaiming continues toward Evergreen. Paving will start at County Road 31 and move west toward Frazee. Once that section is complete, the paving crews will come back to County Road 31 and move their operations east toward Evergreen.
Please note: the reclaiming and paving schedules are weather dependent. Dates and plans may change based on daily weather and rain forecasts.
School access during road work
For those who have kids going back to school next week, staff/students/parents can still access Highway 87 in front of the school up to North River Drive. The barricades are up at CR 29/Birch Avenue to ensure thru-traffic follows the detour. The work zone begins after North River Drive. Highway 87 is still impassable at the Otter Tail River, between North River Drive and Main Avenue East. You'll need to find an alternate route around the bridge site.
All Highway 87 thru-traffic should continue to follow the detour route on Highway 71, Highway 34 and County Road 29/Birch Avenue.
