2021 Construction: Hwy 12 Ortonville to Hwy 59
When taking the detour near the east end of the project, you've probably noticed some shiny new pavement on Highway 12! That's because paving in Stages 1 and 2, between Highway 59 and County Road 80, is nearly completed! Highway 12 remains closed, though, as crews continue with culvert replacements and shoulder widening in Stage 3.
For reference, here are the five stages of construction:
-
Stage 1: Highway 59 to Highway 119
-
Stage 2: Highway 119 to Big Stone County Road 80
-
Stage 3: Big Stone CR 80 to Big Stone CR 23
-
Stage 4: Big Stone CR 23 to Big Stone CR 21
-
Stage 5: Big Stone CR 21 to Highway 75
In each stage, crews have been replacing culverts, grading and widening the shoulders. In addition, in Stage 2, crews also realigned some of the roadway curves. Now that they're done with that work and are nearly finished with paving in the first two stages, we expect the rest of the project will move along at a quicker pace.
For the current work in Stage 3, it's the same: culvert replacements and shoulder widening. We expect Stage 3 culvert work to wrap up next week, and from there, crews will jump ahead to culvert replacements for Stage 4. Shoulder widening from Stage 3 into Stage 4 will continue at its steady pace.
Local traffic (those who have a destination along the work zone) can expect to encounter short-term lane closures and periodic road closures in the areas where crews are working. Watch for loose gravel, equipment, trucks hauling and crews at work.
For all thru-traffic, Highway 12 remains closed between Highway 75 in Ortonville and Highway 59. Please continue to follow the detour route on Highway 75, Highway 7 and Highway 59.
