2021-22 Construction: Hwy 29 overpass near Glenwood
First, thank you to the public for your cooperation during the Highway 29 and Highway 114 closures for the districtwide culvert project. As mentioned previously, this work was NOT part of the Glenwood overpass project, and we apologize for any confusion and inconvenience the overlapping start dates may have had for residents and visitors in the area. The work on Highway 29 and Highway 114 has been completed. The overall project continues on various highways throughout west central Minnesota. Motorists can expect lane closures in the areas crews are working. See the news release for specific locations and visit 511mn.org for all current travel impacts across the state.
Reminder: Hwy 55 is closed, follow the detour
Nearly a month has gone by since crews got started on Highway 55 for the overpass project. As a reminder to all motorists, the work zone on Highway 55 falls between Highway 29 and 160th Street. In this section of the highway, traffic is not permitted to enter. There are barricades set up, and you will have to turn around. Please use the detour route on Highway 29 and Highway 28 in Glenwood.
If you have a destination on Highway 55 that's located south of 160th Street, you can still access the highway. Please follow the detour and enter/exit at the Highway 28 interchange.
Laying the groundwork
From reconstruction to realignment, there's been a lot of dirt moving around on Highway 55 and 160th Street. Crews have been prepping 160th Street for reconstruction and getting things ready to construct the roundabout at the Highway 55 and 160th Street intersection. Storm sewer replacements are coming up soon, too!
In addition, the new alignment of Highway 55 is gradually taking shape! Highway 55 is being rebuilt closer to the railroad tracks, which is necessary to help to minimize the length of the bridge that will be built next year on Highway 29.
