2021-22 Construction: Hwy 29 overpass near Glenwood
Overpass project starts:
Year one construction of the Hwy 29 overpass near Glenwood has officially started! Crews are focused this year on Highway 55 and 160th Street, and work is currently underway to prep the work zone, including pavement removals. This is the first step in the list of steps it will take to realign Highway 55, reconstruct 160th Street and build the roundabout at the Highway 55/160th Street intersection.
Until October, traffic will be detoured to Highway 29 and Highway 28 in Glenwood. Access is being maintained for businesses and residences on Highway 55, but the roadway is closed to all traffic between 160th Street and Highway 29.
Hwy 29 closure update:
Highway 29 also closed this week between Alexandria and Glenwood for up to nine days. This is NOT part of the Glenwood overpass project, but is for a separate districtwide culvert project. Thru-traffic is being detoured to Highway 27, Highway 114 and Highway 55. Due to that project's progress, we do not expect the roadway to reopen before the weekend. The detour will remain in place into next week. If you're heading to Glenwood for Waterama festivities, please use the detour.
During this closure, you can still access businesses and residences on Highway 29. The road is only impassable at the culvert site near Lake Reno. All thru-traffic must use the detour route.
Once the work on Highway 29 is completed, Highway 114 between Lowry and Highway 27 will temporarily close for five days, tentatively scheduled to start July 29. Traffic will be detoured to County Road 26, County Road 7 and County Road 11 in Farwell.
