2021-22 Construction: Hwy 29 overpass near Glenwood
Thank you for signing up to receive email updates about MnDOT’s upcoming project on Highway 29 and Highway 55 near Glenwood. These emails will provide the latest progress reports, including upcoming work, traffic changes, and more.
Construction starts Monday!
On Monday, July 19, Highway 55 will close between Highway 29 and 160th Street for year-one construction of the overpass project. Traffic will be detoured to Highway 29 and Highway 28 in Glenwood until October.
This year, crews will realign Highway 55, moving it closer to the railroad to minimize the length of the future bridge on Highway 29. In addition, they will reconstruct 160th Street and build the roundabout at the Highway 55/160th Street intersection.
Other area closures to note:
Additionally, starting on Monday, July 19, Highway 29 will temporarily close between Alexandria and Glenwood for up to nine days. This is NOT part of the Glenwood overpass project, but is for a separate districtwide culvert project. Thru-traffic will be detoured to Highway 27, Highway 114 and Highway 55. The contractor is hoping to have the roadway reopened in time for Glenwood's Waterama on July 23, but that will be dependent on weather, schedule changes or any unforeseen issues.
During the Highway 29 closure, access to residences and businesses will be maintained; however, the road will be impassable at the culvert site near Lake Reno. If you have a destination along the closed portion of the highway, you will need to find an alternate route/use the detour to get around. All thru-traffic must use the detour route.
Once that work is completed, Highway 114 between Lowry and Highway 27 will temporarily close for five days, tentatively scheduled to start July 29. Traffic will be detoured to County Road 26, County Road 7 and County Road 11 in Farwell.
